アップベジ up vege
未利用野菜をアップサイクルし、新たな食品価値を生み出すブランド「アップベジ」のブランディングデザインを担当。
アップベジは、形やサイズが規格に合わないといった理由で市場に出回らず、廃棄されてきた野菜に着目し、独自の粉末化技術によって食品へと転換するブランドである。食品ロスという社会課題を背景にしながらも、課題解決を前面に押し出すのではなく、日常の食卓の中で無理なく選ばれる存在として成立させることを前提に設計されている。
ブランドロゴは、名称の頭文字である「U」をベースに、植物が成長していくツルの有機的な動きと、アップサイクルを象徴する循環・上昇の矢印モチーフを組み合わせて構成した。未利用野菜に新たな価値が付与され、再び循環していくプロセスを、過度な説明性に頼らず、記号的に表現している。
商品パッケージでは、アップサイクルや食品ロスといった文脈を知らない購入者であっても、「何の野菜が使われている商品なのか」が瞬時に理解できることを重視した。使用している野菜を明確かつアイコニックに示すことで、商品内容と用途が視覚的に即時伝達される構成としている。
アップベジのブランディングでは、社会的意義と生活者の実感とのあいだにある距離を慎重に見極めながら、日常の選択として自然に受け入れられる佇まいそのものをデザインしている。

Art direction and branding design for Upvege, a food brand that upcycles unused vegetables into new food value.
Upvege focuses on vegetables that have been discarded due to irregular shape or size and transforms them into food products through an original powdering technology. While rooted in the issue of food loss, the brand is not positioned as a message-driven or activist initiative. Instead, it is designed to exist naturally within everyday meals, as a product that can be chosen without conscious effort or justification.
The brand logo is based on the initial letter “U,” combining the organic movement of growing vines with an upward, circular arrow symbolizing upcycling. The mark represents the process by which unused vegetables are given new value and reintroduced into circulation, expressed as a concise and non-literal visual symbol rather than an explanatory graphic.
For the packaging design, priority was placed on immediate clarity—allowing consumers to understand at a glance which vegetables are used in each product. Even for those unfamiliar with the concepts of upcycling or food loss, the packaging is structured so that ingredients and usage are visually communicated first. The vegetables themselves are depicted in a clear and iconic manner, ensuring legibility and usability over overt social messaging.
Rather than emphasizing its social significance, the branding aims to establish an appropriate distance between purpose and daily life. The overall presence of the brand is designed to feel natural and quietly integrated into everyday choices.
