燕三条 工場の祭典 2023 Visual KOUBA 2023 Visual
燕三条地域にある工場・工房が中心になって開催されるオープンファクトリーを主体としたイベン ト「燕三条 工場の祭典」のアートディレクション。日本が誇る金物の一大産地である新潟の燕三条地域。 300年前?に農業の閑散期の産業として始まった和釘の生産。そこから一枚の銅板から叩いて器 をつくりあげる伝統工芸の「鎚起銅器」へと発展。その高い金属加工技術を基に今ではカトラ リー・鍋・やかんなどの日用品、アウトドア用品まで日本全土や世界に輸出される様々な金物が この街で作られている。「工場の祭典」はその燕三条で200を超える工場・工房が一体となり2014年から1年に一回開催 され、累計来場者数が27万人を超える日本の東北地方の一大イベントとなっている。 開催時には様々な工場で普段は入ることのできない生産の現場の見学や制作体験などが行われ、 10年目を迎える今年、デザインを一新して展開された。
企業の大工場から鍛治職人の個人工房まで大小様々な工場が密集するこの地域をビジュアル表現 するべく、煙突や採光のための窓など工場ごとに異なる建築にフォーカス。多様な工場のシル エットをシンボル化し紙面全体を燕三条地域として捉え、そこに大小さまざまな工場が並ぶ様を シンボルで置き換えてビジュアルを埋め尽くした。各工場で生産されている銅器や和剃刀などの伝統工芸から調理用品などの大量生産品などを 多様なプロダクトの写真を工場のシルエットと組み合わせ、多様なモノづくりとその作り手の存在 を視覚化した。イベントのロゴと英字書体はオリジナルで作成。金属の抜き加工・曲げ加工をイメージしたステン シル風の書体を開発。ビジュアル上ではベルトコンベアーで連続して生産されるプロダクトのイ メージに合わせ同じ文字を羅列することでインパクトのあるビジュアルを演出した。
Art direction for the "Tsubame Sanjo Kouba no Saiten" an open factory event featuring mainly factories and workshops in the Tsubame Sanjo region.
Discover the prowess of Niigata's Tsubame-Sanjo region, a true stronghold of Japanese metalworking.
From the traditional craft of "hammered copperware," in which a copper sheet is hammered to create a vessel, to everyday items such as pots and kettles and outdoor gear, the area produces a diverse range of metal goods.
Our office oversaw the art direction for the "Tsubame Sanjo Kouba no Saiten" event held in the Tsubame-Sanjo area to showcase the works of more than 200 local factories and workshops. Held once a year,
the event offers visitors the opportunity to visit factories to see and experience how these metal works are made. Now in its 10th year, the event has received a fresh design makeover this year.
To depict the visual essence of the diverse range of factories in this industrial zone, from large corporate facilities to individual blacksmith workshops, we focused on the unique architecture of each, including chimneys and windows that capture natural light. The entire stretch of the poster represents the Tsubame Sanjo region, with various factories of different sizes represented by their silhouettes and symbols.
The factories’ silhouettes are combined with photos of the products they craft, from artisanal items like copperware and Japanese razors to mass-produced wares like cooking utensils. The goal is to visualize the diversity of craftsmanship and the presence of skilled artisans.
The event logo and English typeface were developed from scratch. They feature stencil fonts inspired by metal machining and bending. The arrangement of the same words next to one another, mirroring the continuous manufacturing of products on a conveyor belt, creates a visually striking effect.
